Chapter Seven

All Sterling saw from the second-floor balcony was a sea of black leather. Bodies writhed, the music was sultry, and he desperately wanted to go down there and be a part of the club scene.

But he’d promised Gavino he would stay upstairs while his mate talked with Christian. He’d promised to stay upstairs, but he never said anything about staying in their room.

Technically, he hadn’t broken his word. Oh, but he wanted to, so badly. As he curled his fingers around the railing, Sterling moved his hips, swaying to the seductive beats pulsing through the club.

A few guys hanging around the lounge area upstairs kept eyeing him with come-hither looks or simple smiles. Sterling knew when someone was flirting with him, and if he hadn’t already belonged to Gavino, he would have explored those smiles more closely.

Instead, he gave the men his back. He was still dancing at the railing, enjoying himself when a hard chest pressed into his back. He gasped and spun, ready to lay into whoever was behind him.

It was Gavino.

And he didn’t look happy.

Sterling’s gaze shot to the men by the lounge area. They had turned away. None of them were paying him any attention as Gavino grabbed his wrist. “I thought I told you to stay in the room.”

“No.” Sterling snatched his wrist away. “You told me not to leave the upstairs.”

“You knew exactly what I meant,” Gavino argued. “Don’t try to get technical with me.”

“And don’t try to boss me around.” Sterling slapped his hands on his waist. “Why are you such a party pooper? We’re in a club. We should have a bit of fun.”

Gavino’s eyes became heavy-lidded as he smiled, showing off the tips of his fangs. “I thought we had a lot of fun keeping ourselves occupied until the sun went down.”

Sterling rolled his eyes. “Having sex all day doesn’t constitute fun.” He tapped his chin. “Okay, maybe it does, but now I’m ready to let my hair down and have fun that doesn’t involve your cock in my butt.”

Gavino burst out laughing, and Sterling smiled like an idiot. That was the second time he’d heard Gavino’s laugh and he loved it. It was dark, deep, and smoky. And his laugh was much better than seeing him scowl all the time.

Sterling’s heart sped when he looked to his right and saw Gavino’s men entering the club. The crowd parted for them, and Sterling didn’t blame anyone. They looked like straight-up thugs as they walked to the steps that led upstairs.

Sterling looked back at Gavino. “Why are your backup singers here?”

Gavino’s scowl returned. “My men and I are going to escort you back to the compound.”

“Wait, no!” Sterling didn’t want to be trapped in that concrete prison. He wanted to go down to the dance floor and shake his butt, maybe have a few drinks—from what Yasuko had told him, the bar sold synthetic blood—and party until sunup.

He still wasn’t comfortable with drinking from Gavino, let alone manmade blood, but he would take what he could get.
